Why I Built JobPulse AI

The job market is a numbers game, and the house usually wins. If you've spent hours tailoring a résumé only to get an automated rejection minutes later, you know the frustration. As an IT professional I knew there had to be a way to use automation — specifically generative AI — to flip the script. So I built JobPulse.

The problem: the generic résumé trap

Most candidates don't fail because they lack skills. They fail because their résumé doesn't speak the language of the job description. Companies aren't looking for a list of duties; they're looking for someone to solve a specific set of problems. Manual tailoring is slow. Generic applying is ineffective. JobPulse is meant to sit in the gap between the two.

What JobPulse does

  • Résumé optimisation. Analyses a master résumé against a job description, highlights the relevant experience, and rewrites bullet points for impact.
  • Job analysis. Looks past keywords to identify the company's likely priorities and challenges over the next year.
  • Context-aware chat. Answers questions with your history and the target role in context — how to frame a gap, what to say about salary, how to explain a particular move.
  • Privacy-first architecture. Runs locally via XAMPP. Career data and API keys stay on your machine rather than a third-party server.

The stack

Raw PHP 8.1 on the backend, for speed and easy deployment. Flat-file JSON storage instead of a database: clone the repo, run the setup script, and it's running locally. The front end uses Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js, with Tiptap for editing, so the AI can do the heavy lifting while you keep control of the final document. Model calls go to Google's Gemini API.

Roadmap

  1. Mock interview mode, using the job analysis to ask role-specific questions.
  2. A browser extension that ports saved résumés into application forms.
  3. Analytics on which résumé versions actually lead to interviews.
